Located within the Center for Excellence, the Geriatric Assessment Clinic provides comprehensive health screenings and medical tests for senior adults. The assessment is typically covered by Medicare and other major health insurance companies. All you have to do is obtain a referral from your primary doctor before your assessment. Below is a detailed list of the types of procedures you will undergo at your assessment:
- An evaluation conducted by a geriatrician focusing on memory loss, incontinence, fall risk, depression, and medication issues
- An assessment conducted by a neuropsychologist to determine strengths and weaknesses in thinking and memory
- A presentation of recommended strategies for families and caregivers individualized to the findings of your assessment
- Relevant referrals to community resources for continued support.
- The assessment may take several hours; you may wish to bring a snack or lunch. We also recommend that you bring a family member or close friend with you
Once completed, the results of your assessment will be sent to your primary care physician. You will also be given a summary of your results.
