Providing you the opportunity to access the latest in medical treatments.

What Is a Clinical Trial?

Many of the greatest medical breakthroughs in recent history began in clinical research. A clinical trial is a scientific study used to determine how well new medicines, treatments or medical devices work on people. Our clinical trials are carefully supervised, monitored, and documented by highly qualified and experimental healthcare professionals.

Eligibility

To join a clinical trial, a participant must qualify for the study. Age, medical history, current health status and willingness to follow guidelines may affect your eligibility.

Benefits

Clinical trials are the ultimate proving grounds for new therapies and treatments.

  • Clinical trials open doors to the exciting new therapies that will emerge in the coming years.
  • Clinical trials provide access to the latest products and treatments otherwise unavailable.
  • You'll not only help yourself, you'll help others who may suffer from a specific illness.
  • You'll receive expert medical care during the trial.
  • Medical device testing allows seniors and disabled persons to remain independent—at home—for as long as possible.

You'll be glad to know that you've helped many others whose lives depend on the results of these trials.

Risks

Your health is our primary concern. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has established regulations to protect those who participate in clinical trials. Healthcare professionals follow strict guidelines and an ethics committee approves every clinical trial.

  • Not every trial will lead to a successful treatment.
  • You may be given a placebo (a "sugar pill" or saline injection containing no medical benefit) so researchers can compare the results of treatment versus no treatment at all.
  • You may not have access to the treatment after the trial ends.
  • The trial treatment may not work and could have side effects.
  • The risks associated with clinical trials can vary depending upon the disease being treated.
