Mr. Rick Jackson has been serving the Center of Excellence in Aging and Lifelong Health as Executive Director since January 2009.

He brings extensive experience to the Center, working in the field of geriatric health services for many years. Before coming to CEALH, Mr. Jackson was Geriatric Services Manager for the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, Director of Behavioral Medicine Services at DePaul Medical Center, Director of Marketing and Outpatient Counseling Services for Williamsburg Place, and Director of Intake Services for Virginia Monitoring.

In addition to his leadership experience, Rick Jackson holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Old Dominion University, a Bachelor’s from the University of Richmond, and an Associate’s from Chowan College.

Most recently he was awarded the Certified Senior Advisor designation by the Society of Certified Senior Advisors. Mr. Jackson lives in Williamsburg with his wife Dr. Donna Haygood-Jackson, the Senior Assistant Dean of Students at the College of William and Mary.

Dr. Paul Evans has extensive experience in medicine and clinical research. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Connecticut and is Board Certified in Family Medicine.

Dr. Evans has worked as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia and is currently an Associate Clinical Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition, Dr. Evans is very involved in the community and has been working with the Center as its Medical Director since 2008. He was also the Associate Director and Director of the Riverside Family Practice Residency Program and continues to actively supervise residents.

Dr. Evans is the Primary Investigator for all of CEALH’s clinical trials of new drug therapies for Alzheimer’s and various other ailments.

Dr. Allen is the Director of Geriatric Medicine and Lifelong Health at Riverside Health System in Newport News, Virginia. He is the former chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and medical director of the Institute for Senior’s and Post Acute Care at Summa Health System, in Akron, Ohio.

Dr. Allen graduated from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the University of Cincinnati. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, and holds a CAQ in geriatric medicine from the ABFM. He is a Professor of both Internal and Family Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University. Dr. Allen recently completed the Practice Change Fellows Program www.practicechangefellows.org, a national leadership development program for geriatric leaders and clinicians and now serves on the national advisory board for this organization.

Under Dr. Allen’s leadership, Summa Health System achieved national attention for research, innovative models of care and success in demonstrating the value proposition of geriatric and palliative care to hospitals and the community. In his new role at Riverside Health System he is continuing this work to evolving a health systems approach to improving care for older adults and those with serious and advanced illness.

He has been a principal investigator for several federally funded clinical trials and his research interests include chronic illness care management and transitional care. As a geriatric medicine specialist and researcher, Dr. Allen’s work focuses on developing and implementing geriatric medicine services for older adults, their families and caregivers, and for physicians who provide the patient’s primary care. He has authored and co-authored numerous journal articles, book chapters and abstracts and regularly gives presentations across the country and internationally.

Dr. Nagraj is Board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine and specializes in treating Older Adults.

He attended Baroda Medical College in Gujarat, India and completed residency training at St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Center in New York.

In addition to his work with CEALH, Dr. Nagraj practices at Denbigh Internal Medicine in Newport News.

Bharati Srivastava, MD, is board-certified in Internal Medicine and fellowship-trained in Geriatric Medicine. She specializes in Primary Care for older adults including those with Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss.

Dr. Srivastava is Medical Director for both the Patriots Colony Continuing Care Retirement Community and Riverside’s Center for Excellence in Aging and Lifelong Health (CEALH).

Dr. Tom Powers served as a family practice physician in Williamsburg from 1975 to 2011. In 2011 he retired from his full time practice and began working with CEALH in the Clinical Research Department as a clinical investigator.

He is currently involved in studies regarding diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, and flu prevention. Dr. Powers earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from the College of William and Mary and his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia.

He completed his residency in Family Practice at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, VA. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. James Hess has had over 40 years experience in clinical medicine. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He is currently Board Certified in Internal Medicine and has twice been certified in Emergency Medicine.

Initially in the private practice of Internal Medicine and Cardiology in Williamsburg, he was then a physician in the Emergency Department of Williamsburg Community Hospital for 20 years. He has been practicing urgent care medicine since 1989.

In addition to his work at CEALH in the Clinical Research Department, Dr. Hess is a consultant to the Armed Forces Experimental Training Activity at Camp Peary and is a retired Captain (MC), USNR.

Dr. Cliff Henderson came to Williamsburg in 1975 and was a co-founder of the Williamsburg Family Practice Center, the first residency-trained Family Physician office in Williamsburg.

Dr. Henderson continued in private practice until 1989 when he accepted a full-time position at the Health Center at the College of William & Mary, with a focus in sports medicine. He retired in 2008 and became a clinical investigator in the Clinical Research Department in 2010.

Dr. Henderson graduated from Old Dominion University and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1972. He completed his residency in Family Practice at Fairfax Hospital (1975) and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice.

Dr. Christine Jensen is Director of Health Services Research with the Center for Excellence in Aging and Lifelong Health in Williamsburg. She also teaches at The College of William & Mary and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Jensen obtained her Ph.D. in Human Development & Family Studies with a specialty in gerontology from the University of Delaware. She is active with the Gerontological Society of America, the Southern Gerontological Society, the Older Dominion Partnership, and the Alzheimer’s Association.

She is currently serving as Chair of the Virginia Caregiver Coalition. In 2009, Jensen drafted the “Williamsburg Community Action Plan on Aging: 2010-2020” for the Senior Services Coalition, and this Plan is now in its second year of implementation.

Her research interests focus on elder care and dementia, methods for community assessments, and home and community-based support services.

Gina has 11 years of clinical research experience and has been a Registered Nurse since 1984. She became certified in Clinical Research in 2007 through the Society of Clinical Research Associates.

As the Director of Clinical Research, Gina is responsible for the overall administration and supervision of clinical trials at The Center for Excellence. This includes contract and budget negotiations as well as study feasibility and acquisition.

Gina is accomplished in adult and geriatric clinical trials. She has experience in Phases II-IV trials with indications of Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, adult vaccines, acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, dyslipidemia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, overactive bladder, diabetes, lupus and gout.

Kim Weitzenhofer is Director of Community Relations with the Riverside Center for Excellence in Aging and Lifelong Health in Williamsburg, Virginia. Ms. Weitzenhofer earned her Masters in Public Health from the University of California at Los Angeles. She is also a licensed and experienced Nursing Home Administrator and Certified Senior Advisor. She has served as past Board Vice-Chair of Peninsula Agency on Aging, past Chair of the Peninsula Alzheimer’s Association Walk, current Advisory Council Member of Peninsula Agency on Aging.

In February 2013, she was awarded a grant from the Virginia Department of Health to implement and evaluate Stanford’s Chronic Disease Self Management Program within four sites of Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly.

Ms. Weitzenhofer assisted the grant-writing team to obtain a federal grant for $249,955 from the Health Resources and Services Administration Office for the Advancement of Telehealth Resources and Bay Rivers Telehealth Alliance partnership. She participates in the Telehealth evaluation committee and new aging-related research.

She manages Riverside Senior Care Navigation, a community-based care coordination conduit. Ms. Weitzenhofer also coordinates Chronic Disease Self Management facilitation and workshops in collaboration with community partners, offering free workshops through a Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services grant.

She and her family enjoy living in Colonial Williamsburg.

Mrs. Shartzer grew up in Simsbury, Connecticut, located about 30 minutes outside of Hartford. She attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH for her undergraduate education.

After graduation, Faith spent many years in the insurance and employee benefits industry, but returned to nursing school in Morristown, New Jersey, becoming a Registered Nurse (RN).

Faith worked in an outpatient surgical center for several years. After relocating to Virginia in 2001, she became interested in geriatric care and particularly Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, having lost her former husband in 2008 to an early onset form of Alzheimer’s. Faith currently works as a geriatric assessment nurse at Riverside Center for Excellence in Aging and Lifelong Health. In addition, she is the Chair of the Peninsula Leadership Council of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Faith was the Chair of the 2010 Williamsburg Memory Walk and has attended the Alzheimer’s Public Policy Forum in Washington,DC. In her leisure time she enjoys reading and golf and is active in the local women’s golf association and a volunteer for the LPGA at Kingsmill.

Jill grew up in Ohio and attended the University of Akron and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She has more than 30 years of experience in geriatrics.

She has worked in medical surgical hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and with home health agencies. She has spent the last ten years conducting geriatric assessments.

She is currently working as a geriatric assessment nurse at the Center for Excellence in Aging and Lifelong Health. She is also an 18-year volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association as a leader of a caregiver support group.

Keri holds a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology and a Certification in Surgical Technology. In 2000 she entered the medical field as a Musculoskeletal Tissue Bank Specialist with LifeNet Health. After five years of tissue banking she had the opportunity to become a Clinical Research Coordinator with Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists. During her time at AOS she focused on clinical device trials in the area of spine surgery.

Keri joined the CEALH team in November 2011 continuing her career as a Clinical Research Coordinator.

Dr. Kymberley D. Lucas has been working as a consultant with CEALH since January 2011. She was intricately involved in receiving the Screening Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) grant from the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation.

Since July 1, 2011, she has served as the Director of SBIRT Programs. Dr. Lucas has over 15 years of experience in grant writing, program development, budgeting, and total quality management in both the medical and psychosocial fields.

Dr. Lucas holds a Ph.D. in Healthcare Administration, a Master's in Human Relations and Counseling, and is Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

Karl started his Occupational Therapy career at the Riverside Rehabilitation Institute 1996 as a staff therapist. He later served as Clinical Services Manager, and also operated the Adaptive Driver Training Program at the Shoreview Outpatient Center. Karl left Riverside in 2006 to enter into private practice, and established Driver Rehabilitation of Hampton Roads, Inc. In 2011, Karl joined the Center for Excellence in Aging and Geriatric Health to create Driver Rehabilitation of Hampton Roads – a service of CEALH.

Karl is dually licensed as an Occupational Therapist and a Commercial Driving Instructor. He has been credentialed as a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) by the Association of Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED) since 1997. Karl holds membership in the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), the Association of Driver Rehabilitation Specialists, and the Virginia Association for Driver Education and Traffic Safety (VADETS). He has been a featured speaker at the annual VADETS conference, the Annual Alzheimer's Association conference, and the Virginia Transition Forum.

Karl has been featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles relating to the subject of driver rehabilitation, and frequently presents at local health fairs and community organizations.

Donna Dittman Hale is the founder and owner of Common Purpose Solutions - Helping to Build Capacity to Create a Healthy Community. Her team assists health and human service organizations, hospitals, advocacy organizations, the arts, funders, and other community organizations to discover new ways to organize their services, evaluate their successes and activate their volunteer resources.

Donna has participated in the development and funding of the Healthcare Workforce Partnership, Historic Triangle Substance Abuse Coalition, Senior Services Coalition RIDES Project, HIV/AIDS CARE Consortium, and a number of other Coalitions and Community Services.

Donna has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from St. Lawrence University and a Masters in Health Administration from the Medical College of Virginia, and did her residency at Maryview Hospital, where she developed Health Promotion and Occupational Health Services.

Her recent clients include facilitating the Community Action Plan on Aging for the Senior Services Coalition of Greater Williamsburg; Peninsula Council for Workforce Development, coordinating the Greater Peninsula Healthcare Workforce Partnership; Colonial CASA and The Arc of Greater Williamsburg, serving as Interim Director; Strategic Planning for Colonial Heights Food Pantry and Grant Resource Development for Lutheran Family Services of Virginia.

Dalene joins us after nearly twelve years at Williamsburg Landing as Administrative Assistant to the Nursing Administrator. There she managed schedules, payroll and medical supplies. She thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the residents.
